CHARACTERISTICS

Name: Amarone della Valpolicella Falezze DOC

Production zone: the Municipality of Mezzane di Sotto, locality Falezze

Vines: Corvinone 40%, Corvina 30%, Rondinella 15% e Oseleta 5%

Age of vineyards: 40-80 years

Ground: gravelly clay loam which is extremely calcareous and moderately alkaline, but in the deepest part of the soil there a sand clay loam texture is present.

Altitude: 250 metres above sea level.

Farming system: Pergola Veronese

Harvesting modalities: By hand on plateaux, repeated selection

Fermentation: the fermentation takes place in personally designed steel tanks. Vinification lasts about 20 days at a controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation is carred out in wooden barrels.

Refinement: the refinement is carried out in new barrels of 500 L and 250 L in French oak for two years.

Yield: It takes over 2,5 kg of grapes to produce one bottle of wine.

 

ORGANOLEPTIC NOTES

Colour: ruby red colour with intense purple reflections.

Bouquet: Complex and intense with aromas of blackberry, wet leaves, damp earth, red roses and mint.
Flavour: The flavour is very intense and persistent, with memories of licorice, blueberries, blackberries, punch and chocolate. Amarone is dry, very warm, fresh, mallow with a good dose of salt and minerals, full bodied, ripe and with a mallow tannins. It can be drunk immediately or kept in the cellar for several years. You should to decant before serving. Serving temperature 18-19 ° C.

To be served with: this is a wine to drink during or after a meal, but better in company. It goes well with red meat  (beef or venison, stewed meat), poultry, lamb, pork (seasoned with rosemary), sausage and aged cheese (like Monte Veronese cheese).
